Tim Hanstad '85, co-founder of Landesa, meets with families.

At SPU, Tim Hanstad ’85 combined classroom studies with leadership experiences, but it was SPU’s political science classes that solidified his interest in social justice causes.

Today, Tim is co-founder and senior advisor of Landesa, a Seattle-based nonprofit that works with governments and communities in more than 50 countries to strengthen and secure land rights for the world’s most impoverished by developing, monitoring, and implementing land-related laws and programs. With particular focus on women, Landesa has helped more than 125 million families gain land rights.
