New students at Orientation 2024

In late September, hundreds of students and their families returned to the Seattle Pacific University campus to prepare for the Autumn Quarter and the start of the 2024-25 academic year.

Orientation Weekend kicked off on Friday, Sept. 27, with President Deana Porterfield and Vice President for Student Life Jeffrey Jordan welcoming incoming students and their families as students moved into Ashton Hall and Arnett Hall. “We commissioned our students in the Circle of Matriculation with corporate prayer, handed out SPU logo pins, and began a new tradition of presenting Bibles, thanks to a generous donor,” said Jordan.

Excitement continued to build throughout the weekend. On Saturday, Sept. 28, SPU hosted two-time Grammy winner Lecrae and Seattle-based hip-hop artist PEABOD for a live concert exclusive to SPU students, faculty, and staff. The free performance, held in Royal Brougham Pavilion, was made possible by generous SPU alumni donors who wanted to provide a memorable kickoff to the new academic year.

On Sunday, while returning students settled into their housing, they were invited to the annual Involve-O-Rama, an event designed to help them explore and connect with campus clubs and organizations, ensuring they could integrate into the SPU community from the start. “We are thrilled at how all our students — new and returning — are getting involved in our community,” said Jordan. “Our students make SPU a special place with their commitment and energy!”

Autumn Quarter class instruction began on Monday, Sept. 30, marking the start of another academic journey for the SPU community.
