How does your time at SPU connect to the work you’re doing today?

SPU helped me to think about what really matters. My USEM class was all about vocation and how God wants to use us — through what we do for “work” but more importantly, in how we live our lives. I believe God can use my graphic design and illustration career, but more than that I think he wants to use me as a person; a person who has the opportunity to love others and pursue justice.

Who made a difference in your SPU education?

SPU is filled with amazing faculty and staff so it’s difficult to choose just one who made a difference in my education. My favorite and most memorable classes related to seeking justice for oppressed people and the professors who taught those classes truly impacted me. Two that come to mind: Housing taught by Dr. Sandra Hartje and a social justice elective taught by Dr. Kerry Dearborn.

What advice do you have for students about life after graduation?

You don’t have to figure everything out right away. Trust God. Trust the process. You may end up taking a very different path than you expected and that is more than OK!
