Biology major 2008

With a background in biology at SPU, Burrone currently works on the animal care staff in the elephant barn department at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. In her role, she is responsible for the husbandry of Asian elephants, clouded leopards, musk ox, and reindeer.

How does your time at SPU connect to the work you’re doing today?

Classes like animal behavior and animal physiology have a direct connection to what I do every day. These gave me a great foundation.

Who made a difference in your SPU education?

Dr. Cindy Bishop was a huge support as my faculty advisor. She really helped me find the right path through the major to achieve my dream job. I still count her as a friend and keep in contact.

What advice do you have for students about life after graduation?

Hard work doesn’t stop once you have that diploma, the focus just changes.
