Editor’s note: In our spring issue of Response, we asked who could name this professor. You not only correctly identified him as Professor Robert C. Hughson, but many of you shared fun memories of him. Thanks for your letters.

My wife and I both graduated from SPU with degrees in physics and had Professor Robert C. Hughson for several classes, mostly physics labs. He was a great professor, taking personal interest in us as students. He helped us organize an amateur radio club, building transmitters from old surplus parts that had been stored in the lab.
We both have fond memories of SPU, and Professor Hughson was a very important part of our lives when we were there.

Professor Robert Hughson regaled us with great stories of solving overheating transistors by dunking them in his coffee. I learned many things from Dr. Hughson. I went on to teach physics and there were many labs and examples he gave to me that I brought to my classroom. His notion of learning by labs is still one I treasure and use every day.
“To be taught by professors who, rather than trying to disprove the existence of God, showed me how God is constantly reflected in the beauty of his creation, has become one of the foundation stones of my faith in our amazing Father.”

I took Electric Circuits and Electronic Instruments and Electronics from Dr. Hughson in 1970–71. He was a wonderful professor who contributed greatly to my love of electronics. In college, I discovered I had a passion for computers. After graduation, I went into that field and eventually started a computer consulting and software development company called Applied Logic Corporation. Seattle Pacific has been such a blessing in my life. To be taught by professors who, rather than trying to disprove the existence of God, showed me how God is constantly reflected in the beauty of his creation, has become one of the foundation stones of my faith in our amazing Father. I will always be grateful.
