As a self-employed photographer, Beck strives to capture people in their element. Based in both Seattle and Santa Barbara, California, he provides artfully crafted photos, reflecting personality and style through Char Beck Photography.

How does your time at SPU connect to the work you’re doing today?

Being connected with friends from my time at SPU has helped my work because I have been fortunate enough to capture a lot of alumni, their friends, and their family with photography!

Who made a difference in your SPU education?

Ed Smyth is still one of my closest mentors and friends. He led a discipleship group of some of my best friends from SPU and we keep in touch to this day.

What advice do you have for students about life after graduation?

Life will happen to you. It will be hard, it will be fun, but you have no idea what exactly tomorrow brings. Take a day at a time, definitely plan, but don’t put your faith in your plans; put your faith in God. He will guide you through whatever comes your way.
