Cellular and Molecular Biology and Chemistry majors 2012

With a background in both chemistry and cellular and molecular biology, Sunde works as a research assistant for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has started training for a job in the microbiology lab in order to carry out a project that the lab has contracted in Tres Cantos, Spain, for a couple years.

How does your time at SPU connect to the work you’re doing today?

It connects directly to the work I’m doing today because I work in a microbiology lab. Without the skills I learned at SPU, I would not have had the opportunities I’ve had since graduating from college.

Who made a difference in your SPU education?

Drs. Derek Wood and Benjamin McFarland made differences in my education. In their courses, I gained experience performing original research projects in the lab and got a taste of the scientific life.

What advice do you have for students about life after graduation?

Study and do whatever interests you after graduation, even if it doesn’t seem directly related to what you studied.
