Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies are already central features of our daily lives and will only increase in the coming years.

In the 2024–25 academic year, SPU will offer several “AI and Society” courses designed to increase students’ familiarity with these technologies and help them think carefully about the social benefits and potential harms they pose.

The AI and Society program is not a major, but the courses will prepare students to enter a variety of fields with the ability to engage with, and help shape, our emerging technological society.

Courses include “Living in a Digital World,” “Information and Attention,” and “Science, Technology, and Society.”

Advanced courses will also be offered in machine learning, data science, and AI.

In September and October, SPU is hosting an in-person and online conference titled “AI and the Future of Work.” SPU faculty will lead plenary sessions — on the latest developments in AI, the ethical impacts of AI, and writing with AI — as well as professional tracks focused on business, education, health professions, psychology, and ministry.
